Fall Photos

Monday, December 20, 2010
These were taken over Thanksgiving break while visiting Lori's parents. We went out to hopefully get some photos for the annual Christmas card (which we got- thanks to Lori's dad, who is also a photographer). Of course I couldn't resist getting a few of just Rachel.

Liberty Homecoming

Saturday, December 18, 2010
We actually made it back to Liberty for homecoming this year. It's the first time we've been to homecoming since we graduated. We thought this year would be a good one since they just opened the new upper deck. It was really nice. Of course we sat in the new section and the view was great.

All of these photos were taken from my seat. The reach of the 70-200 lens was a lot better than I initially thought it would be.

Zoe Dog

Thursday, December 16, 2010

Our dog has done really well with Rachel. They are becoming best friends and love playing and chasing each other around the house. Rachel thinks she is absolutely hilarious and doesn't hesitate around her one bit. Most of the time, Zoe ends up getting her eyes poked, ears and tail pulled, hair jerked out, or drooled on (just to name a few). She lets Rachel do pretty much anything to her and just sits there (She does get a lick or two in. She can't really help herself there).

Since Rachel entered our family a little over a year ago, she obviously takes up most of our time at home now. We try to make sure Zoe is included, but I know she probably feels rejected a little.

So here's a few of the best dog in the world. These were taken in the back yard last week ago.

Black and Whites

Wednesday, December 15, 2010
Here are a few recent black and white photos. Sometimes photos just look better in black and white. I think that color can sometimes get in the way of the compositional aspect of the photograph. I'm finding myself converting more and more of my photos to black and white.

Somewhere on the Blue Ridge Parkway between Roanoke and the North Carolina state line.

The road up to Mill Mountain in Roanoke.

Downtown Roanoke from the Mill Mountain overlook (I know this isn't a true black and white, but I thought leaving the view of the city in color allowed you to see more detail since it's such a small part of the photograph).

A pedestrian bridge connecting the downtown greenway to a new section not open yet.

Rachel's Nine Month Photos

Monday, December 13, 2010
I recently had to move around my makeshift studio to make more room. I bought some more white panel board to increase the white floorspace as well. Rachel has become very mobile since learning to walk. When these photos were taken, she was still relatively stationary. Now she can run off the set in a matter of seconds. It's becoming more of a challenge to photograph her, but luckily she is also turning into a ham. So she loves the attention.

If your interested in how to do the white seamless look, you should check out the blog of Atlanta Photographer, Zack Arias. He has a great tutorial. (link here)

"Happiness"

Saturday, December 11, 2010

Taken while out with the family one day this fall. We were out driving on the parkway and stopped at Peaks of Otter. I was taking pictures of Rachel playing in the leaves when this elderly couple came by. Once they passed I saw this shot and had to get it.

Back to Blogging

Thursday, December 9, 2010

So after an 8 month break from the blog, I've decided to start back. I'm planning to post things that I've been working on over the past few months.

Since my last post, I've done several weddings, my first bar mitzvah, several senior portrait sessions, and of course all the things with Rachel and my family. I've even starting messing around a little with microstock photography. I'm not really making that much, but I didn't expect to. Just wanted to see what would happen. I've done the best on Shutterstock. In the past month, I think I've sold somewhere around 45 images. We'll see where it goes....

I'm starting pretty much where I left off with my last post. I'm posting a few from Rachel's Easter portraits.

My little girl

Sunday, April 11, 2010

Rachel was six months old Friday. Where did the time go? Seems like it was just last month when Rachel was born. She is definitely entering a more "fun" stage. Everything so far has been fun too, but I'm really enjoying all of the new things she can do. It's like she learns to do something new every day or she figures out how to do something better. The past month she has really gotten better at sitting up. It also makes it a whole lot easier to do photos that way.

These are a few of her six month photos. Lori made her a tutu, and we found an old necklace to put on her. She's really learning how to "turn it on" for the camera. One day I know she will get tired of it all and say "no more daddy." But until then....

We also took some Easter photos around the same time. I will post some of those later.
